Let’s take a peek at 2015 trends!

2015 has just begun, but here at Lu Raquel we’re excited and ready to assist in making a bride’s day the most special day of her life. A key aspect of our preparations for this year was anticipating the coming trends, and designing gowns that would be fashionable and unique to each bride. Each and every gown that we create has the opportunity to be customized to meet the needs of every bride – unique brides need unique dresses. So without further ado, let’s take a look at the new and refreshing trends of 2015!

Less is more

This season seems to be all about “less is more” by shedding thick straps and sleeves in favor of ultra-thin spaghetti straps, caplets, crop tops, and sheer high-neck styles.  Each style has its own unique flair, and thanks to our own wonderful customization program, Lu Raquel has the ability to create that perfect gown for you!
Check out some of our “less is more” gowns from our Spring 2015 line – and keep in mind that any and all gowns can be customized to your heart’s content!

Layers upon layers & Light as a feather

Another trend that’s taking the bridal scene by storm is layered ball gowns, minus the heaviness. Light and airy layered gowns are a definite must for those princesses-to-be!
Take a peek at one of our very own light and layered ball gowns from our Spring 2015 line!

The Hollywood slit is quickly becoming something many brides consider, if the cold doesn’t bother them anyway. Taking the bridal scene by storm are dresses with the dramatic Hollywood slit much like Queen Elsa’s stylish gown in Frozen. Interested? Take a look at one of our own designs!

Kristin Marrie in all her Dreamy Bling

We love incorporating special details into our gowns. Our Kristin Marrie is a stunner with a Swarovski crystal encrusted top. At market in October, we couldn't get enough of her sparkle and shot a little behind the scenes video of her being shown off. Just look at the dazzle! Imagine walking into a venue wearing her, the crystals reflecting every flash of the camera. Dreamy.

Quotes from the great Dr. MLK Jr

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we thought highlighting some of his most inspirational quotes would be a great way to dedicate our blog to his legacy. Take a little time today to reflect on his teachings and apply some of his wisdom to our daily lives and business practices!

Greener Bridal and a Greener Lu Raquel!

"Green" has been a hot topic word for a while now, and we are finally seeing it get a little traction in the bridal design world. We have had brides and store owners ask us what Lu Raquel does to contribute to the well-being of this lovely planet we all call home. The fashion industry is currently procuring a bad reputation due to the over-consumption and throw away methods, and many brides are wanting to know what are we doing to become more sustainable?

The thought of "green" when discussing bridal fashion has it's own negative connotations.  There is a general stigma that if you wear hemp based textiles, you're a hippy or that up-cycling really just ends up with someone looking a hot mess.  Does it really have to be this way?  What are the textile options for brides who would really prefer to "go green" on their wedding day?

In the bridal industry we tend to lean more towards the silk hemp blends, as well raw organic silk, of course! We even have a fellow designer who is exploring the use of vegetables to dye the silk! Here is a little fun information on some fun fabrics:

Hemp- This is an amazing plant with great properties.   Hemp is an extremely versatile plant that can be grown in most climates. No pesticides or insecticides are needed to help it grow, in fact it improves the soil in which it grows!  Okay, we never thought we'd say this, but fight for hemp in fashion! Bonus, hemp blend fabrics can be gorgeous!

Soya- As crazy as it may sound, this textile has been compared to cashmere.  No, we're not joking.  From the hull of a soy bean comes a textile that is lightweight and soft with a bit of stretch.  Want to hear one of the coolest advantages of it though?  This fabric is so biodegradable that you could throw it on your compost pile when it wears out...  Heck yeah!

While many designers who use organic fabrics cater to a more earthy clientele, the green movement is gaining traction with brides and we want all our brides to know they can still go green without sacrificing style, luxury or beauty! Most gowns in our Lu Raquel collections can be ordered in a raw, organic silk that is lovely for the eco-friendly bride! Take a look at our collection and think about how beautiful it would be to order some of these in a gorgeous raw silk! http://luraquel.com/dress-gallery

So what does Lu Raquel do to be good stewards of our planet?

1.  Samples never fall by the wayside by discontinuing a style -

We understand how heartbreaking it is when a woman falls in love with a gown that she sees years before her actual wedding just to be told that style is discontinued.  This also leads to an excess of sample gowns that stores can only sell off the rack.  What happens to them?  Every gown from every collection can be remade and ordered off of.  This means less samples that go unused.

2. We cut to conserve fabric -

No, this does not mean that we compromise the integrity of our gowns.  However, we do attempt to utilize fabric yardage to our best advantage.  We don't roll out yards upon yards, we use only what we must to create a beautiful gown.

3. We are a digital company -

As most of our partners have noticed, we do most of our business virtually. There is very little paper used in our business dealings. We only send out physical look books when someone asks for them specifically. Otherwise our look books are always sent through a virtual file. Last but certainly not least, we take full advantage of technology by visiting with our partners via Skype and other virtual meeting programs.

It may not be drastic, but we try to do our part.

Design Details

Details, details, details.

At Lu Raquel we all know the importance of details.  Whether it's inspecting a gown to make sure everything is in tact to be shipped or designing a new gown that a seam needs to be but half an inch to the left, we take care of the details.

Any designer will testify to the importance of details in a garment, but while we're in the early stages of design it's the little things that hit home for us.  Many designers feel more is better, we tend to lean toward the ideology that more really is less.  When there is one small part about the dress that a girl cannot get enough of, that's what makes that dress her own.

The trend of DIY ways to make a dress more personal to a bride is on the rise, and we love it!  One of our favorites is the idea of cutting a heart out of dad's old shirt and stitching it into the dress above her own heart.

A something blue that's just too cute for words? Having the wedding date or any other momentous date to the bride and groom sewn into the hem of the gown in blue thread.  Adorable, romantic, and whimsical.

We strive to make gorgeous gowns that aren't over designed with little surprises that perhaps only the bride notices, but makes her feel even that much more special.  Because that's what we're here for, to make our brides beautiful.

Even though we can't physically take your keepsakes and put them into your gown, we pride ourselves in our easy and flexible customization capabilities.  We want dresses to be perfect for the bride and easy to acquire for our partners.  We know the trials of a woman coming in to find that she loves a gown, but one detail is off and there's nothing that can be done.  Which is why we are so proud of our Lu Raquel customizations.  We work with boutiques to get the brides and the stores exactly what they want.

We are so excited to delve into a new season of design! Laced (haha... see what we did there) with new trends, ideas, and innovative designs that we hope boutiques and brides across the country will love.  We look forward to debuting our premier collection of Fall 2015 in the upcoming months.

Look back soon, and as always:

Love from all of us,

The Lu Raquel Team

What's in a name?

Did you know that each and every gown from our collections are named after special people in our designers lives? We just love giving a spotlight to the women in our lives who have shaped us into the men and women we are today. The design process for each gown is such a personal process and everyone on our team just loves to name the gowns when the collections are complete. Each and every time we see one of the gowns in a magazine, online or on a lovely bride we feel a connection because all of our designs are so near and dear to us!  Below, we have highlighted just a few of our gowns from our collections and have given a little back story to how they were named and who they were named after.

Visit our collection at www.luraquel.com!

Alina:

This gown was named after one of our team members sister in law. She is sweet, beautiful and classic, which is exactly why this gown is named after Krista Alina.

Kristin Marrie:
This gown is so special and is named after our designers best friend. Stunning, classy with a big pop of attitude ,this gown encompasses Kristin's personality to a T!

Donna Belle:
This gown is the epitome of classy, sexy and confident, which is why is it so appropriately named after our lead designers mother, Donna.

 Chloe:
Sweet, princess-like, and angelic...all words that are used to describe our Chloe which is fittingly named after one of our team members sweet niece. She loves pink, so of course our sample gown is shown in this fun color! (Comes in white, Ivory, Light Ivory)

Reese:
Last but certainly  not least is our Reese! This gown is adorable! Its dainty lace top and dutchess satin mullet skirt make it just as sweet as can be and completely unique to boot! An obvious choice to be named after another one of our nieces!

We can't wait for our next collection in April to launch so we can start all over naming gowns for people in our lives we just love! Our team is truly blessed with a large support system of friends and family...I don't think we will ever run out of name inspirations!
