I do, I don't... Do's and Don'ts for dress shopping!

If you're like me, you probably have a Pinterest board or two of dream wedding dress ideas. I've found that no matter how many countless hours of Say Yes to the Dress I've binge watched, dress shopping seems like such a daunting task. Here are some tips and insights on wedding dress shopping.

Shop early
Start shopping at least 6-9 months in advance. Gowns take time! At Lu Raquel you can customize any aspect of any dress so the more time, the better, that way you won't have to worry when it comes down to crunch time for the big day, you'll have your dress and one less thing to worry about.

 Come prepared
Whether you have exactly what you want or have multiple ideas, bring reference photos or a list of ideas, but still be open to trying new things!

   Our CEO Sarah says:
" Throw out all the rules, try on anything you want, and buy what makes you feel absolutely beautiful...experts say a size 20 can't wear a mermaid style...I say what do they know?! I've seen plenty of 12, 18, 20's that rocked a form fitting mermaid. Short girls shouldn't get ball gowns because it will overwhelm them...I've seen a 5'1" bride rock a ball gown like no one's business. BUY WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL BEAUTIFUL AND SEXY...who cares what the experts say."

Don't bring too many people
Bring one or two people that you trust and really want to share this special experience with you! Too many people can make the process more overwhelming with too many opinion being thrown your way, when in the end it's your day and your dress.

Shop at the right time
Saturdays are very popular day to go wedding dress shopping, so why not take a Wednesday morning off and go then? You won't have to deal with as much chaos and you will also have more time to find what you're looking for.

Have a budget in mind
Let your consultant know your budget, there is no point trying on a 10,000 dollar gown if you're budget is nowhere close to that range.

If you're still not finding the perfect dress you're looking for, and if you still haven't had that magical moment, instead of trying on 100 more dresses, you always have another option. What if you could have a custom made dress just for you? A design team working diligently with their creative genius to create the dress of your dreams? What sounds completely out of reach for us non-celebrities is actually possible thanks to Lu Raquel! I was so amazed when I started working here when I heard about our Bride Label Program, which allows brides to design a custom gown without having to pay movie-star prices. A design team working diligently with their creative genius. How great is that?!
